George Hopkins

George Hopkins, 94, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:15 P.M., Friday, August 15, 2003 at Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin.
George worked as a tipple operator at Consol #2 coal mine.  He was of the Methodist faith.  He was a member of Du Quoin Masonic Lodge, Ainad Temple Shrine, Scottish Rites, and UMW of A.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II.
He was born April 21, 1909 at Christopher, IL, the son of Gwilym and Jane (Waugh) Hopkins.
He married Dorothy May Bishop on January 10, 1943 at Perryville, Missouri and she preceded him in death on August 2, 2001.
He is survived by one daughter - Janet Hopkins of Du Quoin, one son - John Hopkins and wife Debbie of Du Quoin, and grandchildren - Debbie Hopkins, James Hopkins, Christopher, Amy, and Michael Hopkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers - Bill and James and one sister - Elizabeth.
Memorial services were held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Carl Mesiti officiating.
Friends called from 9 A.M. until 10:30 A.M., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Masonic service was conducted at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday at the funeral home.
Military graveside rites were conducted by Du Quoin VFW.
Friends may make memorials to Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
